Introduction. The growing globalization in all spheres of human activity is one of the important tendencies of social development today. This leads to employers’ increasing demands to their employees’ level of English as the main international language in various professional spheres. It is necessary for higher educational establishments to find adequate ways to meet the needs of modern companies in competent specialists knowing English at a sufficient level. This makes it urgent to research non-language university students’ motivation for studying English in order to improve the process of teaching this subject. Purpose. The aim of this article is to study the character and strength of bachelor students’ motivation for learning English, to determine the dependence of this motivation on such things as students’ professional orientation and gender factor. Materials and methods. This research is based on N. C. Badmaeva’s modification of the method to analyze academic motivation worked out by A. A. Reanand V. A. Yakunin. The material for the study was the survey of 100 first-year bachelor students with different majors at Ugra State University. Results, discussion. The research shows that the students have the motives to study English connected with travelling, entertainment, leisure; the motive connected with self-development is less important, even less important is the motive connected with the professional use of English. The correlation of the motives varies depending on gender and major factors. Conclusion. The results of the study can be used to improve the process of teaching foreign languages to university students, with due regard for their gender and major.

Authors: Olga A. Demintseva;
Introduction. The article is devoted to the problem of assessing the readiness of future teachers to a healthy lifestyle. The structure of readiness for a healthy lifestyle is specified, components of readiness for a healthy lifestyle are highlighted. A brief characteristic of the criteria and indicators of readiness for a healthy lifestyle is given, the levels of readiness formation for a healthy lifestyle are established. Purpose: to specify the levels and criteria of readiness for a healthy lifestyle of future teachers. Materials and methods. The research is based on the theoretical analysis of scientific-pedagogical and psychological literature on the research problem and the method of modeling. The results of the study, discussion. Taking into account theoretical studies and experience of assessing the teachers’ readiness for a healthy lifestyle, we consider it appropriate to allocate the following interrelated criteria in the readiness assessment structure: motivational-value, cognitive, activity-oriented and evaluative-reflective, each of which contains a set of indicators that allow to identify the levels of readiness for a healthy lifestyle (low, medium, high). Conclusion. The analysis of levels and criteria of readiness of future teachers to a healthy lifestyle, allows us to establish their essential connection with such psychological concepts as “readiness component”, “readiness indicator”. The process of formation of readiness for a healthy lifestyle is multi-level in nature, which requires the allocation of levels and specification of the criteria of its formation.
ON CONDUCTING AN EXAM IN MATHEMATICAL DISCIPLINES AT A UNIVERSITY IN THE FORM OF TESTING WITH AN INTERVIEW
UDC: 378.2
Section: PEDAGOGICS
Authors: Olga A. Kashintseva; Irina A. Sarycheva;
Introduction. Fundamental changes in the entire system of higher education, including mathematics, require teachers to have a more flexible approach to organizing exams at universities. As a result of a comparative analysis of the traditional form of the final test (on tickets orally and in writing) and testing, consideration of their advantages and disadvantages, it was concluded that it is necessary to update the form of intermediate control at the university: combining the test and the oral response. Purpose: to analyze the methods of conducting an exam in mathematics at a university, its new configurations; to present the results of using tests on maths in mathematical disciplines at the Cherepovets State University in combination with an oral response. Materials and methods. The work used methods of collecting primary information, analysis of scientific articles and literature, methods of statistical analysis. As a result, the teachers developed a form for the examination in the form of a combination of a test and an oral response. Moreover, in all tasks of the test, coercion of solutions or explanation of the choice of answer is required; there are tasks that help test the ability to carry out proofs of theorems. The student’s short oral response allows the teacher to evaluate the degree of formation of oral mathematical speech. The results of an experimental study (conducting examinations in various forms) were processed by methods of mathematical statistics. Results, discussion. The analysis of scientific articles, other literary sources, the conducted survey of students and teachers led to the following conclusion: for students and teachers, the more preferable form than an intermediate test in the form of a traditional exam or testing is an exam in the form of a combination of a test and an oral response. At the same time, the level of mathematical competence formation among students of the experimental group was the same as that of students in the control group. Conclusion. The work revealed the advantages of an updated form of conducting an exam in mathematics in the form of a combination of a test and an oral response. At the same time, it became possible to more objectively assess the knowledge of students, their degree of training throughout the course being studied.

Section: PEDAGOGICS
Authors: Irina B. Cheskidova;
The development of a sense of color in children of primary school age plays an important role in the formation of aesthetic qualities of an individual. Artistic and aesthetic development is one of the main tasks facing primary school, the development by primary school children of the content of fine art, the means of its expressiveness, including color, contributes to the formation of aesthetic consciousness of students, the development of emotional and sensual sphere, provides opportunities for self-improvement and self-realization. The aim of the article is the generalization and systematization of experience in the development of a sense of color in primary school children. Materials and methods. Fine arts lessons and extracurricular activities in primary school provide great opportunities for the development of children's sense of color through non-traditional drawing techniques. The analysis of theoretical research, creative works and color characteristics given by students, allows to conclude that the work in non-traditional techniques contributes to the understanding of the relationship of color and sound, taste, odour, the development of tactile sensations, the development of the ability to obtain color shades, experience the emotional response to color, and the ability to give emotional-figurative characteristic of color. Research result. First-grade students were asked to characterize the rainbow colors, while the following levels were determined: objective, partly emotional and emotional-figurative characteristics of color. After the implementation of the project to develop a sense of color in the lessons of fine arts using nontraditional drawing techniques, the following data were obtained – the number of children who gave the objective characteristic of color decreased and amounted to 5.4 %, partially emotional increased and amounted to 40.54 %, emotional-figurative increased and amounted to 54.06 %. Conclusion. The development of color by children from tactile sensations to emotional reactions to color and from them to the actual sense of color; “inclusion” in the work with color of all the senses of the child; the use of a variety of non-traditional techniques contribute to the formation of the ability to express their attitude to color, to obtain shades of color, their harmonious combinations, the emergence of an emotional reaction to color, which ultimately contributes to the development of a sense of color. Analysis of students' drawings showed that these skills are manifested in practice.
THE SPECIFICS OF OCCASIONAL WORD COMBINATIONS AND WAYS OF THEIR TRANSLATION IN TV SERIES DISCOURSE OF “DOCTOR WHO”
UDC: 81:371.671.85
Section: PHILOLOGY
Authors: Marianna Yu. Anduganova; Aleksandra A. Korchagina;
The article is devoted to the analysis of occasional word combinations and their translation into Russian. The study carried out on the material of the text of the British science fiction television series «Doctor Who». Due to the fact that the genre of the series is modern science fiction, thus makes it understudied and relevant materials concerning formation of new English words and their translation into the Russian language. The theoretical basis for this work was the works of Russian and foreign linguists, through which a generalized analysis of approaches to the interpretation of the term “occasionalism” by representatives of different linguistic schools was given. We suggest to divide occasional word combinations in two groups: simple and mixed occasional word combinations, where the component part is nonce-word. In the course of the study, the ways of translation of the studied type of nonce words were identified and it was determined which ways were used the most to translate mixed and simple occasional word combinations. The continuous sampling method revealed 128 occasional word combinations, where 71.8 % were ordinary occasional combinations and 28.2 % were mixed. In addition, their thematic groups were established. The study shows the main methods of translation of occasional word combinations: calquing, descriptive translation, half-calquing, transcription, transliteration, approximate translation and logical synonymy. Half-calquing was mainly used to translate mixed occasional word combinations. In the article there are also given diagrams, which show the main ways of translation of occasional word combinations, and reasoned conclusions.
GRIBOEDOV’S INTERTEXT IN I. A. GONCHAROV’S STORY “HAPPY MISTAKE”
UDC: 8.821.161.1
Section: PHILOLOGY
Authors: Gulzada G. Bagautdinova;
Introduction. The play “Woe from wit” by A. S. Griboedov was one of the artistically significant for I. A. Goncharov, so Griboedov’s traditions make up the literary context of both the writer’s early work and the mature period represented by the novel genre. Goncharov’s “critical etude” dedicated to Griboedov’s “Woe from wit” – “A Million of Torments” – serves as an indirect confirmation of the non-randomness of this intertextual interaction. Purpose: to reveal some intertextual references between I. A. Goncharov’s “Happy mistake” and A. S. Griboedov’s play “Woe from wit”. Materials and methods. The subject of the study is the work of I. A. Goncharov, written in the early, so-called “pre-publication” period of the writer’s work, which allows us to identify some patterns inherent in both small and novel prose of Goncharov. The main research methods are historical – genetic and intertextual. Results, discussion. Intertextual interactions are the least studied aspect of Goncharov’s poetics. The scientific novelty of the article is determined by the study of some artistic features of the embodiment of Griboedov’s intertext in the story of I. A. Goncharov “Happy mistake”. Conclusion. There is no doubt that one of the literary pretexts underlying the “Happy mistake” by I. A. Goncharov is the play by A. S. Griboedov “Woe from wit”. The writer uses Griboedov’s original source not only at the level of allusions, but includes clearly recognizable quotes in his text. One of the epigraphs- quotes of “Woe from wit” serves as a clear intertextual “key” to deciphering artistic contexts. However, Griboedov’s “Woe from wit” – is not the only work echoing the story of I.A. Goncharov “Happy mistake”.
TRADITIONS OF RUSSIAN AND WORLD CLASSICAL LITERATURE IN THE WORKS OF YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS (ON THE BASIS OF “NEW DRAMA”)
UDC: 82-343.4
Section: PHILOLOGY
Authors: Tatiana A. Zolotova; Mariya A. Mansurova;
Introduction. The article examines one of the urgent issues of modern literary criticism: the identification of peculiarities of interpretation of Russian and world classics by young playwrights, representatives of the so-called “New Drama”. This trend was formed and its genres were defined at the turn of the 21st century. Purpose: to identify the distinctive features of interpretation of the classical heritage in the works of young playwrights; to reveal the degree of their dependence on the artistic experience of the interpretation of the classical literature in the Kolyadatheater; as well as to identify the features of their individual style. Materials and methods. The article is based on the material of the dramatic work by Irina Vaskovskaya, the prize-winner of several prestigious awards and contests. The focus is on her play “Galatea Sobakina” (2014). Comparative-historical and typological methods are used in the research. Results, discussion. The article highlights the fact that the attitude to the classical heritage in the Russian society was far from unambiguous at the turn of the 21st century. On the one hand, harsh attacks on the classical literature and the desire to dispel the yesterday’s idols attracted attention; on the other hand, for many artists this literature was and remains “the foundation, the basis and the reservoir” of characters, plots and motifs. As for Irina Vaskovskaya’s play, which is undoubtedly very acute in social terms, it is directed against both “antagonists” of the Russian classical literature and its close-minded “protectors” leading their followers into ideological and intellectual impasse. Moreover, the young playwright opposes all forms of education, supressing the human personality. Conclusion. The authors come to the conclusion that the play “Galatea Sobakina” is certainly inspired by the absurdists’ experiments and thus includes the traditional elements of the Theater of the Absurd: they are reflected in the story, topics and motifs of the work. The poetics of the text and the scenography of the stagings also suit them. At the same time, Irina Vaskovskaya applies all these techniques with elements of irony and play. The authors of the article believe that it results from the inclusion of allusions to the Russian and world classical literature (myths, works by B. Shaw, V. Mayakovsky, M. Bulgakov) into the play.
RUSSIAN-LANGUAGE PROSE BY ZINAIDA KATKOVA (VALUE ASPECTS OF THE CHARACTER SYSTEM OF THE NOVEL “WHERE ARE YOU, MY HAPPINESS?”)
UDC: 821.511.151
Section: PHILOLOGY
Authors: Igor P. Karpov; Raisiya A. Kudryavtseva;
The object of the research is the character system of the novel “Where are you, my happiness?” by the famous Mari writer Zinaida Katkova in the value aspect. The axiological paradigm of Mari literature as a problem of scientific study is in the focus of attention of modern researchers, but needs to be filled with concrete empirical material, and this study contributes to it. The aim of the study is to identify the content of the author’s axiological sphere, which is manifested in the selection of characters, the structure of the character system and the moral self – determination of characters. The authors use the authorological method of analysis, within which the author is considered as a subject of literary-artistic activity, and a literary-artistic work as a verbal-figurative form of objectification of existential forces of the author. At the beginning of the article the problem of the bilingualism of the writer is analysed, then the character system and the conflict in terms of value oppositions, the main features of construction of the character (figurative) system, the author’s objectification of moral values in the structure of the character system are examined. The character world of the novel is based on the principles of panoramic volume, the relationship of the character’s social role and moral values, the plan of personal relationships is presented as a fascinating melodramatic narrative, full of misunderstandings, chance encounters, adventurous situations. The highest author’s values, manifested in the appearance and fate of the characters: the effective connection of the person’s own fate with the fate of his country and people, following national traditions. A man as a part of a family, clan, labor collective, a man in his kindness and unselfishness, love to his people and his language, his customs – these are the defining values for the author and his positive characters. But next to this world of love and labour, there is a world of opportunists at all levels of the social hierarchy: from party leaders to managers of specific enterprises. The internal appearance of these people is determined by their selfish aspirations. These two worlds and different types of characters are depicted by the authors in specific social and industrial situations of the 1950s – early 1960s.

Authors: Irina Yu. Kirillova; Аlbina F. Myshkina;
Introduction. Today, it is important to study national literatures not as self-contained art systems, but in close interation with each other. One of the main tasks of such a study is the search for universals, testifying to the unity of different literatures, and identifying their uniqueness and national identity. The aim of this article was the authors’ desire through the analysis of the Chuvash drama in the context of the Mari literature to identify their inherent trends, national traditions developed by years, to see the prospect of their further development. Materials and methods. The primary research materials were dramatic works of the Chuvash and Mari writers of the beginning of the 20th century, which are the most typical for this period, as well as scientific publications of researchers of the region on the problems of national literature. The work is based primarily on cultural-historical, comparative and historical-functional methods, which contributed to the comprehensive solution of the problems facing the authors. Results of research, discussion. In the course of the study, the authors studied not only individual works of drama, but also analyzed the general cultural and national peculiarities of the Volga region. As analysis showed, at the beginning of the 20th century, the artistic systems of the Chuvash and Mari peoples were formed under the influence of common external factors (folk traditions, Russian literature, enlightenment, and the national liberation movement). Conclusion. As a result of the study, the authors came to the following conclusions: 1) dialogical relations between the Chuvash and Mari literature, functioning in the same Ural-Volga literary community, arose at the stage of their formation; 2) the process of formation of the national drama of the peoples of the Volga region is generally homogeneous, each of them to a certain extent reflects the general development trends.

Introduction. The article deals with the linguistic representation of the concept of vremya/Zeit in the poetry of the great classics of world literature on the basis of an anthropocentric approach, implying the study of the connection of consciousness and thinking, culture and personal experiences. The national content of the concept, supplemented by the author’s connotative meanings, represents a subjective understanding of time in the Russian and German language pictures of the world. Purpose. The aim of the research is conducting a comparative study of the semantics features of time in the poetry of A. S. Pushkin and J. W. Goethe, as well as revealing national-cultural and individual author’s features of time perception. Materials and methods. The original poetic texts of A.S. Pushkin and J. W. Goethe were used as the material for the research. The method of continuous sampling, comparative method, etc. were used to describe and determine the features of the components of the conceptual field of “time” in the Russian and German languages. Results, discussion. Despite individual idiosyncrasies, the lexeme vremya/Zeit bears common characteristics and conceptual signs for both poets. In the poetry of A.S. Pushkin and J.W. Goethe, the studied lexeme acquired the ability to move in a different way with a different degree of intensity. Vremya/Zeit also receives spatial characteristics, can act as an object of manipulation, be defined and thus acquire additional value. There were signs characteristic only of the poetic language of J.W. Goethe, in which time can affect a person, instructing him on the path of truth, and itself acquire a reasonable content. The language material made it possible to reveal Goethe’s view of time from a philosophical perspective. Conclusion. The concept of “time” in the poetic texts of A.S. Pushkin and J.W. Goethe acquires its dynamic aspect, transforming into an individual form of ideas about time, reflecting the personal experiences and feelings, experience and knowledge of the author, which undoubtedly aims the reader to search for truth. The unevenness of the author’s correlation of the lexical category of time indicates that the mystery of time and its essence interested J. W. Goethe more.
