Introduction. The modern Russian historical society has developed and continues to exist as a multinational state, in which the number of ethnic mixed families and multinational groups increases every year, which ultimately leads to an expansion of the framework of interethnic communication and the formation of multicultural literacy in individuals. In this regard, in the first planned educational policy of the regions, problems arise in the development of a multicultural educational environment. The multicultural educational environment of a university is a specially organized socio-psychological environment in which each subject of the educational process, regardless of his ethnicity, will have equal opportunities for personal self-realization, dynamic development and self-improvement. The experience of our work convinces us that the potential of socio-pedagogical consulting, aimed primarily at providing pedagogical professional assistance in the process of adapting students to living conditions in a new multicultural educational space, can be used as an effective means of developing a multicultural educational environment. We consider social and pedagogical consulting in the system of higher professional education as a specially organized process of providing qualified pedagogical assistance to students in the process of their socialization in the multicultural educational environment of the university, the development of social norms of life, the creation of favorable conditions for intercultural communication, etc. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the feasibility of using socio-pedagogical consulting as a means of developing a multicultural educational environment at a university. The features of the organization of a multicultural educational environment at a university, its objectives, principles and structural components were studied and analyzed. The role of social and pedagogical consulting in the development of a multicultural educational environment at a university is theoretically substantiated. Social and pedagogical consulting in the higher education system is aimed at solving the following tasks: providing high-quality professional psychological and pedagogical assistance to the student during his adaptation to new learning conditions in the multicultural educational environment of a modern university; inclusion of students in the educational, scientific, social, educational life of the university; creating favorable conditions for the development of friendly relations between student groups, etc. Conclusion. The results of this study may be useful for theoretical and practical application to teachers of higher and secondary vocational educational institutions involved in the development of a multicultural educational environment.
