Introduction. Dialects have a unique ability to preserve intact for many centuries the most archaic features, which for the most part have long been lost by the literary language, for this reason dialectological material is the most valuable source for etymological research. The dialect vocabulary of the Tatar language includes a large layer of general Turkic vocabulary and dialectisms of different times, dating back to the ancient Turkic language. The purpose of this study is to analyze the etymology of lexical dialectisms characteristic of dialect speakers in the Yutazinsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan, from the point of view of preserving the Turkic layer in it. Materials and methods: the empirical base of the study was made up of lexical dialectisms recorded by us during field research in the Yutazinsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan. The main research methods used were the field method of data collection, descriptive, including such techniques as the study of factual material, generalization, comparative historical, comparative comparative. Research results, discussions: this article examines lexical dialectisms that date back to the ancient or Turkic stratum. The conducted research made it possible to concretize and clarify the etymology of words that exist in this area, to identify dialectisms of the general Turkic type. Conclusion: in the speech of residents of the Yutazinsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan, there are dialectisms that go back to the ancient Turkic language, these lexemes often have parallels also in other dialects, dialects of the Tatar language, as well as in other Turkic languages.
