The purpose of the study is to analyze the terminology of cybercrime in order to identify the most common categories of vocabulary and word–formation models, to reveal the most typical difficulties in translating terminological units from English into Russian. The relevance of this study is due to the fact that cybercrime is one of the most popular types of crimes of the XXI century. Terminology and its translation, especially in narrow fields such as cybercrime, play an important role in translation studies and linguistics. The material of this study was 200 terms in the field of information technology, selected in the process of analyzing dictionary definitions from electronic thesauri and glossaries, which are included in the training manual for future law enforcement officers from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as from scientific articles on the global Internet. A comparative method was used to identify the types of terminology and typical word-formation models. Lexical and word-formation features are considered, and by analogy with the legal vocabulary the terminology of cybercrime is divided into five categories, with the exception of Latinisms. Typical features of the terminosphere that pose difficulties for translators and law enforcement officers have been identified. The scientific novelty of the work consists in recognizing the obvious importance of the object of research in such scientific and practice-oriented fields as linguistics, law enforcement. As a result, it was revealed that one of the most common difficulties in translating cybercrime terms, i. e. in the field of lexicography and in the practical activities of law enforcement officers, are abbreviations. Due to the high productivity of this method of word formation, the abbreviation becomes an obstacle to correct translation, since it may have a different interpretation in another professional language or functional style of English and Russian. There are a huge number of multicomponent terms in the terminology of cybercrime. Grammatical design in them can be expressed in various ways, but with the preservation of formal and semantic functions inherent in the national language.
