Introduction. In the training of Natural Sciences bachelors at the University, a high dependence of the quality of students' training on the ability to apply mathematical knowledge in the development of specialized disciplines was revealed. The problem of practice-oriented teaching of mathematics is caused by the lack of students' ability to apply theoretical knowledge, the search for the optimal approach to ensuring the interrelation of the theoretical and practical components of mathematical education. Practice-oriented training requires reliance on theoretical knowledge, but the prevalence of theoretical knowledge in the educational process creates a high risk of training formalization. The purpose of the study is to identify the formation of Natural Sciences bachelors’ abilities to perform practice-oriented tasks, to identify the role of practice-oriented education as a way of professional competencies formation. Materials and methods. To achieve this goal, the levels of professional orientation of students according to the method of T. D. Dubovitskaya and the levels of bachelors’ mathematical knowledge during entrance knowledge testing using the model of V. P. Bespalko for assessment of learning outcomes were revealed. Results of the research. During the study, the high level of students’ professional orientation to the future profession is revealed, that allows us not to attribute the motivational and value attitudes of students to obstacles to mathematical competence formation. The results of mathematical knowledge testing showed that students coped with tasks of increased complexity (knowledge component), but a low percentage of practice-oriented tasks performance was shown. Conclusion. The results obtained determined the relevance of strengthening practiceoriented training through the introduction of practice-oriented tasks into the educational process. Practice-oriented maths education contributes to the achievement of students’ understanding of the essence of the mathematical concepts under study, requires further research and methodological developments.
