The Paralympic Games are a unique event in many aspects. It is a competition of people with restricted abilities, a social project and it has special requirements for journalism. The coverage of the Paralympic Games in the press is not a simple subject. Ideological context and pity felt by the audience watching the TV-picture did not contribute to high ratings and consequently – high economic indicators. The author pays attention to the uniqueness of the Paralympic Games in Sochi, its TV-coverage and impact on ratings. In addition, he describes broadcasting of the Paralympic Games in Sochi and other countries of the world, its differences and reasons of this phenomenon.
