The paper concentrates on the translation of Anglo-Scottish folklore ballads, traditions and approaches to their translation in Russia. The specific features of the ballads in question are: an abrupt beginning, dramatic nature, concentration on an episode, psychological insight and enchantment. The author analyses A. S. Pushkin’s contribution to the translation of ballads in Russia.
