The article gives an overview of international cooperation of the Republic of Mari El viewed in the context of the foreign policy of the Russian Federation in 2008. In 2008 Russia acted on the international arena completely realizing its responsibility and its possibilities proceeding from distinct understanding of its national interests multiplied by common sense and readiness for equal cooperation with foreign partners. International activities of the RF entities are among the tools to realize Russian foreign policy. International activity of the Republic of Mari El had a potential for its development in the humanitarian and investments spheres.
