Having read the novel «Dead Souls» for the first time, K.S. Aksakov pointed N.V. Gogol’s epic vision comparable only with an artistic vision of Homer, Shakespeare and Goethe, writers who painted a vivid picture of the highest expression of human emotionality – passion. Gogol did not choose Achilles and Othello and King Lear and Faust, but he simply chose paltry landlords and clerks.
