The article focuses on culture-specific vocabulary, lacunae in the English and Russian languages, their main features, classification and peculiarities in different cultures. The ways of their translation such as morphological and semantic translation loan words, commentary, interpreting, explanation, transcription, transliteration, etc. are presented in the article. The author compares the translations given in the English- Russian Dictionary by A. A. Makhonina and M. A. Sternina and ABBYY Lingvo 12.
