The article considers the emergence and the development of the concepts of “patriotism” and “patriotic education” in the works of Russian and foreign scientists and educators. The article shows the essence and the content of patriotic education within the axiological, student-centered and cultural approaches in education. The substantial potential of the parts of regional studies is lodged theoretically in the patriotic education of school children.
