Training of a competitive personality, being one of the priority trends in the conditions of higher education diversification is considered in the article; its components are characterized by the author, who also suggests means of the vital personality formation which will correspond to the challenging needs of education. The stages and main trends of competitiveness development, pedagogical conditions contributing to its effective formation in students are pointed out in the article.
