Annotation:

The purpose of this article is to study the author's interpretation of the concept of the “house” in the works of N. V. Gogol. The material is individual works by N. V. Gogol: “The Evening on the Eve of Ivan Kupala” (the cycle “Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka”), “Old-World Landowners”, “Taras Bulba” (the cycle “Mirgorod”), “Portrait” (the cycle “Petersburg Tales”), the poem “Dead Souls”. The choice of works is due to the desire to analyze various types of houses-dwellings (Little Russian huts, landowners' estates, Cossack kurens, provincial houses, St. Petersburg slums, etc.) in the artistic heritage of the writer. Research methods: conceptual, contextual, intertextual, also a structural-functional approach is used in studying the author's interpretation of the concept of the “house”. Discussions and results. The main features of the concept are indicated: it reflects the specificity of the collective and individual-author's consciousness, is a system-forming element of the artistic picture of the world. The understanding of the concept of the “house” formed in the consciousness of a Russian person is designated (dwelling, shelter, family, woman, hearth, homeland, etc.). The main meanings of the concept of the “house” in the works of N.V. Gogol are traditional: dwelling (hut, poor provincial noble house, Cossack kuren, St. Petersburg slums, etc.), homeland, mother, woman-housewife, love. Methods and techniques of actualization of the concept of the “house”: images (of various types of dwellings, mother, woman, etc.), motives (striving for home, maternal love, marital respect and love, protection of the homeland, comfort, etc.), opposition (rural life - St. Petersburg, wandering - finding a home, etc.). The following functions of the author's interpretation of the concept of the “house” in the works of N. V. Gogol are defined: the formation of local texts (“Little Russian”, “Cossack”, “Petersburg”, etc.), the establishment of contextual connections (for example, with the works of A. S. Pushkin, M. Yu. Lermontov, etc.), the way of expressing the author's position (home is a place dear to the heart, where the human soul strives). Conclusions: the study of the conceptual sphere of N.V. Gogol's works is promising and allows us to get closer to understanding the artistic picture of the writer's world.
