The article analyses quantitative and qualitative changes in the structure of collective-farm peasantry and changes in the working conditions on collective farms in the Mari ASSR during World War II. The number of agricultural population of the republic and its social structure are investigated. The questions of workload growth, the decrease of income and the government measures to increase labour productivity on collective farms are also considered.
