Introduction. The broadening of the vocabulary of any language is essential part of its development. Changes in science make it possible to consider many word formation processes from new perspectives, therefore their study is relevant today. The subject of the study is common Finno-Ugric word formative suffixes. The aim of the study is to identify and describe the semantics, origin and functioning of common Finno-Ugric word formative suffixes of nouns in the Hungarian language. Materials and methods. The following combination of methods was used during the analysis: comparative-historical and comparative methods. The study material was taken from the dictionary “Magyar-orosz szotar” = “Hungarian-Russian dictionary” by L. Galdi, P. Uzoni. Results, discussion. During the study it was revealed that the word formation system of nouns in the Hungarian language is very diverse. Most noun-forming suffixes are unproductive. Not all common word formative Finno-Ugric suffixes can form nouns in Hungarian, because some of them are very rare or outdated; there are suffixes that are a part of complex suffixes. Some suffixes have undergone changes, others have not changed their form, or have moved from a double indica-tor into a single version. Conclusion. Based on the analysis of the semantics, origin and functioning of common Finno-Ugric word formative suffixes of nouns in the Hungarian language, it can be concluded that a lot of common Finno-Ugric word formative suffixes of nouns has survived and they differ in semantics, degree of distribution and productivity.
