Introduction. The introduction of federal state educational standards in the educational process of higher education contrib-utes to the establishment of correspondence between the quality of bachelor's training and the labor market requirements, in which the training of a competent professional, who is able to adapt to changes in the modern production process as quickly as possible, comes first. Particular attention is paid to the fact that the methods of teaching should match the trends of the present time, in which the use of information technologies becomes a necessity aimed at realizing the educational tasks of the modern learning process, so the trainee must have information competence. Purpose: identification of the need to develop information competence of students in the modernization of the educational process. Materials and methods. The competence approach is based on the graduate model implemented by the Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Education, in which not only the formation of competences of professional activity, but also the realization of the personal qualities of the future specialist plays an important role. As a result of mastering the bachelor's program, the graduate should have gen-eral cultural, general professional and professional competences. After analyzing the Federal Educational Standards in differ-ent bachelors’ training programs for the availability of competences formed by means of informatics and information and communication technologies, we can talk about their presence in any program of training. Results, discussion. Competences, formed by means of informatics and information and communication technologies, in one form or another, identified in each program of training, since this is due to the fact that one of the tasks of the universities is the task of preparing the graduate for life and work in the information society. Conclusion. The introduction of Educational Standard and the trends of modern soci-ety put before the educational organization the task of training a specialist with a certain set of competences, including a significant number of competences formed by means of informatics and information and communication technologies. That is, the gradu-ate must have information competence.
