The purpose of the article is to explore the opportunities of critical thinking technology in teaching students of the language faculty socio-political vocabulary. The definition analysis of this category “Critical Thinking Technology” was given together with the principles of its construction. The article reveals the role of critical thinking style as the important strategy of the graduate’s successful social and professional functioning in higher educational establishments. While teaching a foreign language the critical thinking development is represented as one of the factors forming the communicative competence. Three stages of critical thinking: ”Evocation”, “The Realization of Meaning”, “Reflection” with the examples of methods and techniques used on each stage are introduced in the article. The article touches upon the specific features and the use of the critical thinking strategies, methods and techniques at the English lessons in the course “socio-political vocabulary” with the peculiarities of the countries’ state power and socio-political structure of their society. The publicistic materials’ peculiar qualities of the language and its style are shown in the article. The article stresses the necessity of introduction into educational process when working with socio-political vocabulary using such methods and techniques of critical thinking as: “cluster”, “a predicting tree”, “five lines”, “insert”, “the circles in the water”, “thick and thin questions”, “a fishbone”, “role games”, “a creative project” and “a portrait of a politician”. It is very interesting to mention the portrait of different countries and periods’ leaders made up by the students: B. Eltsin (Russia), M. Thatcher (Great Britain), Sh. De Gaulle (France). The article gives the examples how to use exercises and problematic tasks of critical thinking development: predicting, evaluating, analyzing, categorizing, developing links, interpreting, decision making, etc. The article gives the evaluating criteria of students’ activities with the use of critical thinking and the results of their interview (the interview of term values). It’s proved that the use of critical thinking technology at the lessons with socio-political vocabulary at the language faculty promotes the realization of Russian educational modernization concept in the field of training highly qualified specialists possessing new thinking, tolerance and readiness for the constant professional growth.
