The author carries out a study of online media of the Republic of Mari El on the subject of the use of special features and multimedia technologies. The study presents a content analysis of eight online resources of the Republic of Mari El. This allowed to find out the current state of regional online media and prospects for its further development. The author of the article also examines the processes of con-vergence taking place in the regional online media. The author comes to the conclusion that at present the regional online media do not use multimedia tools and advanced technology to the full, satisfied with fairly narrow set of the technologies already mastered. Results of the study can help the online media of the Republic of Mari El to start applying new technologies in the preparation of materials.
