The aim of the article is to investigate Yu. Bayguza’s contribution to Mari drama, and to reveal peculiar features of his artistic style. The purposes are to review the history of Mari drama taking into consideration its main stages, and to highlight the role of Bayguza as a dramatist; to study parable genre form of his plays “Silk Swings” and “Dawn over Abyss”; to analyze the role of artistic details in the psychological drama “Today is the Birthday”. The paper also deals with the peculiar features of Mari drama from 1920s to 1980s. It is proved that the style of Yu. Bayguza’s dramas is in the use of such genre forms as drama-parable, a sad comedy, psychological drama. The main attention is paid to poetics of his works. It is emphasized the singularity of generalized nature of the characters, ideological orientation in his plays, symbolism, dialogues and monologues generation, and remarks. The role of the objective world is highlighted in the psychological drama of the Mari writer.
