The article concerns the peculiarities of semantic field gentleness/nobleness representation as well as actualization in fiction texts of the Victorian era English literature of the XIXth century. The basis for understanding the fiction text as the multilayer and complex phenomenon are the works by such famous linguists as V. V. Vinogradov, A. A. Novikov, V. A. Maslova, A. T. Lipatov. The material for the study were the novels by such writers as J. Austene, Ch. Lever, E. Trollop whose works reflected the reality of their epoch when the qualities and understanding of moral and ethic values of the time, belonging to the high levels of the society were extremely important. The statistics of usage of constituents are given as well as their main functions are analyzed. The most frequently used lexemes are the carriers of the gentleness and nobleness – gentleman, lady, nobleman. Opposite the linear meaning fixed in the dictionaries the meanings of the lexemes in the fiction text they gain the additional shades of meanings, as the result of the whole text semantics and the author’s intention. The meanings connected with the noble and gentle birth are actualized in the texts as well as the particular characteristic features necessary for the persons of nobility. The article concludes that the meanings connected with both the noble birth and the noble morally high behavior depend upon the whole text semantics, and also the author’s intention.
