The authors refer to the little-studied aspect in the work of Goncharov - study comical aspect in a small prose. It is the aesthetic dominant of the artistic world of the writer. The object of the study was the early work by Goncharov – “Happy mistake”. The purpose of the article is to identify some of the artistic techniques that contribute to the creation of comic situations in the story. The ways to create the comical aspect are various, but one way or another, they help to create events that deviate from the standard rules. The article discusses the following methods of the comical: the effect of misunderstandings; deformation; exaggeration; surprise; inconsistency; violation of the rules of logic. Furthermore, the comical is created using different artistic means at both forms, and the content level. The important observation from the author of the article is that comical beginning of the “Happy mistake” interacts with the serious one. The authors conclude that the comic is not only the shaping factor, but also an important indicator of an aesthetically perfect prose. Specificity of the comical by Goncharov is that it is often difficult to distinguish between different types: humor, irony, satire. Due to comical the story becomes easy, laughter brings order in the artistic picture of the world and creates a unique author's narrative style
